Hi love.
I’m so sorry for your loss but I’m glad that you’ve found your way here.
Early grief. It’s a time unlike any other. When the normal rules of life just don’t apply.
I remember when my partner Brian first died, I couldn’t even breathe. I was cracked open, guts spilled out on the floor, and it felt like everyone was watching. But also, like they were purposefully looking away.
I was lonely but all I wanted was to be alone.
I felt like my loss was the only loss that had ever existed.
I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t read, couldn’t think.
I wanted to scream at everyone.
I remember walking down the street and not understanding how it was possible that the world was still turning. How people were still walking around, unaware that my life was forever altered.
I felt like I couldn’t even get to the next moment, let alone the next day.
I had lost everything. I didn’t even know who I was. I wasn’t even sure if the experiences I had with him were real, because he was no longer here to remember them with me.
My body was in complete shock. I couldn’t do any of the things I had previously done to help myself feel better.
I’m here to tell you that if you feel like this too, you are not alone. And you will not feel this way forever.
There is nothing wrong with you.
This is traumatic grief.
It is devastating.
And yes, unfortunately, people who haven’t been through it just don’t understand.
But I do.
And it’s not just me, there are so many of us.
I promise.
This hurts this much because grief is a mirror reflection of the love that we have.
And I’ll tell you a secret, this love will never go away. It is yours to hold, for all of eternity.
